Research paper bluebook

Below is a two-part recording of a Bluebook training class. It was offered by HLS research librarian Jennifer Allison for LLM students in March 2020. Although it references the 20th edition of the Bluebook, the class is still relevant and provides a good basic introduction to general Bluebook style and citation rules for US and foreign sources.

Title page in Bluebook format; Introductory paragraph; Findings from secondary or primary sources; Analysis of a paper; Conclusion; You may either insert the direct quotes from the source into your paper or paraphrase the sentences taken from the source; just do not forget about an appropriate Bluebook citation of academic paper or papers you use.

The Bluebook citation format is a source system which involves a set of rules for referencing among law students and those in practice. In other words, it’s the legal way to reference scholars of law. The citation format, itself, was created and agreed upon by law professors at Harvard, Yale, and the University of Pennsylvania.

It informs students how to cite all types of law documents. The Bluebook offers a uniform system of citation which is standardized for most law essays in college. It is important to note that many state courts and the U.S. Supreme Court have their own citation system in place, but most universities adhere to Bluebook citation systems.
